Prevent Stiffness, Improve Movement: How to Keep Your Horse’s Fascia Health

Prevent Stiffness, Improve Movement: How to Keep Your Horse’s Fascia Health

🐎 Here’s how you can keep your horse’s fascia healthy:

  • Address imbalances in the body: I address pelvic imbalances with my Lumbosacral solution method, but other imbalances can be caused by hoof issues, uneven movement patterns (for example, a rider always getting on the left side, and OTTB whose always raced to the left, or a polo pony whose rider always leans to the right), or any current or former pain/injury.

  • Encourage good posture, especially over the back, and even movement throughout the day. One easy way to implement this in your routine is to ask your horse for belly lifts while you groom (I have a video on my page on how to do belly lifts the *right* way, check it out!).

  • Ensure proper hydration and electrolyte balance to support fascial fluidity.

  • Incorporate stretching and myofascial release techniques to improve flexibility, reduce tension, and enhance blood flow to the muscles.

  • Exercise intentionally with targeted poll and hill work to improve posture and core stability.

When fascia is compromised, it doesn’t just affect one muscle—it affects the whole system. So if your horse has a clean bill of health from their vet but is exhibiting pain in their body, start looking at the fascial system.
